Meet the Founder
20+ years of service in the industry.
Although Piatt Tactical Training LLC only came into existence in 2017, I’ve been training security and bodyguards for private companies since the mid-’90s.
Piatt Tactical Training LLC offers a wide range of training options and skills created by blending military, police tactical, and personal experiences in the field.
We also offers basic and advanced firearms training with multiple systems including handguns, shotguns, and tactical rifles, basic and advanced self-defense and martial arts training, advances, route planning, detail formations, and tactical driving.
SECRET SERVICE
I learned these skills working with a retired Secret Service Agent (SSA) who worked President Johnson’s detail and that, combined with my 17 years of military service and 30 years as a Texas peace officer, including 8 years on a major Texas City SWAT team, has provided me with a lifetime of varied experiences directly applicable to the unique skills required to be successful in this unusual field.
MILITARY
I served 11 years in the United States Army as a military analyst focusing on the Soviet Union and its political and military leaders and the USSR’s political stability. These skills directly relate to the planning aspects of personal protection. (I also served 6 years in the Navy Reserves).
POLICE
I began my police career in 1979 and retired as a division commander supervising patrol, intelligence, organized crime, SWAT, and robbery-homicide. I started working with the SSA in the early 90s while I was the SWAT entry supervisor and taught impact weapons and basic martial arts to his clients.
We worked together until his passing in 2012. After his passing, I continued working with some of the same clients and they are still with me training once or twice a year.
CORPORATE
I have worked as a bodyguard for CEO’s and board members of major private corporations for several years.
TEXAS
Piatt Tactical Training is a Texas licensed security school(F09396201), and I am licensed by Texas as a security school instructor for armed uniformed security and armed plainclothes personal protection officers. Additionally, I am an FBI and NRA firearms instructor and a Texas license-to-carry firearms instructor. I also hold instructor’s certifications in multiple disciplines including impact weapons and chemical munitions deployment. I also hold a BA in Criminal Justice
INSTRUCTORS
In addition to my personal skills, I also hire subject matter experts as needed to present specific instruction in Specialty fields.
My two primary instructors are Louie Marquez and Robert Chapman. Their experience and backgrounds are similar to mine having worked as personal security, and prior police and military.

Harold Piatt
Founder
Experience

Founded Piatt Tactical Training LLC in 2017.
- Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice with a 4.0 GPA
- 11 years in the US Army
- worked as an intelligence analyst covering The former Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact tracking military and Political leaders and estimating the countries stability
- held several Top-secret clearances & worked in a secure facility
- 28 years with the Austin Police department
- Retired as a commander supervising patrol, intelligence, organized crime, robbery/homicide and SWAT
- Made more than 200 search and arrest warrant hard entries
- was on site at the Branch Dravidian compound in 1993 after the initial Assault
- Supervised major multi-state investigations involving the FBI, IRS and DEA
- Worked as a bodyguard for several major United States corporations
Louie Marquez
Primary Instructor
Experience
Louie is a former SWAT officer, and our primary self-defense instructor holding legitimate black belts in multiple self-defense disciplines. He is also a firearms instructor and presents the firearms instructions in Spanish when applicable. Louie was one of the original Taser and ASP (collapsible metal baton) “train the trainer” and end user instructors for both applications. Additionally, he is one of the original instructors for the new Bolo Wrap product and was the chief instructor for Police Combative Academy. He graduated from Gunsight, Blackwater, Secret Service Protective Operations and the FBI basic and advanced SWAT schools.

- Retired from the Austin Police Department
- Served on the SWAT team
- Worked as a personal Bodyguard for several corporations
- Active Martial Arts Practitioner and holds legitimate black belts in multiple styles and disciplines
Robert Chapman
primary instructor
Experience
Robert Chapman is my second primary instructor and firearms expert. He is a certified SWAT firearms instructor and an FBI firearms instructor. Robert graduated from the FBI SWAT school in Quantico VA. He has 42 years of law enforcement background with municipal and county agencies and was the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department chief deputy for 16 years. He served on the SWAT entry team for 5 years.
- Retired from the Austin police department
- Served on the SWAT Team
- Served 16 years as the Williamson County Texas sheriff’s Department as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer
- As the Chief, he re-created the county SWAT Team
- Served in the United States Army as a military police officer.
